Climbing & Bouldering

Scale the heights in the Pitztal Valley

Rock climbing is an exhilarating sport which can be practised in both summer and winter in the Pitztal Valley. The town of Imst is home to one of Austria's finest indoor climbing centres, while the nearby Kletterstadl Stillebach has more than 80 boulder routes. In the summer months the Kletterpark Pitztaler Gletscher is one of the best outdoor locations for gravity-defying adventures.

Climbing with Glacier Views

Rock climbing paradise in the Pitztal Valley

For families we recommend the Klettergarten Gletscherstube in Mittelberg. It offers not only a wide range of routes for all ages and abilities but also fantastic views of the mountains. The nearby "Gletscherstube" serves food and drink.

Fans of via ferrata (fixed-rope climbing routes with metal handholds and footholds drilled into the rockface) will find a number of options near Arzl at the start of the valley as well as in the Kletterpark Pitztaler Gletscher. The latter has four different via ferrata, including an easy route designed for children aged 10 years and older.

Another climbing hotspot in the Pitztal Valley is the Klettergebiet Plangeross, also known as the "Hexenkessel" (Witch's Cauldron). It is situated just two kilometres from the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. In summer 2017 the family-friendly Bouldergebiet Mandlersboden was also opened.

Indoor Climbing

Fun and adventure whatever the weather

Boulder- & Kletterstadl Stillebach

The Kletterstadl Stillebach has 85 boulder routes and is a personal favourite of Benedikt Walser, one of your hosts at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. He was personally involved in developing this indoor climbing and bouldering centre. Day tickets are very reasonably priced and climbing shoes can be hired for a small fee.

Kletterhalle Imst

The Kletterhalle Imst is recognised as one of the best indoor climbing centres not only in Tyrol and Austria but probably in the world. As such it is the perfect place to try out rock climbing for the first time. The centre offers courses for beginners focussing on the right technique and safety precautions.

Climbers Paradise App

Climbers Paradise is a collective of climbing regions in Tyrol. They have recently released a free app with information on climbing and bouldering areas as well as via ferrata and ice climbing. Download the app here.
