Ski Touring

Magical moments in the mountains

Ski touring has experienced a huge boom in recent years. This popular off-piste sport involves walking up the mountain on skis and skiing down through open terrain. It is a great alternative to standard piste skiing and gives skiers and boarders the chance to escape the busy slopes and experience the peace and quiet of the mountains. Ski tours can be undertaken with friends or in the company of a mountain guide.

New Since October 2017

Austria's first permanent ski touring park

Wintersports enthusiasts staying at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten shouldn't miss out on the chance to visit Austria's first permanent ski touring park. It opened in October 2017 and has three training routes for different abilities (blue, red and black) on the Glacier.

At the top of the Gletscherexpress lift (2,840m) is an area for beginners, while more experienced ski tourers will find the perfect terrain for training. The park is open from December until April.

Ski tourers who want to try something else will find plenty of options such as tours onto the Brochkogel and the Wildspitze, at 3,776 metres the highest mountain in North Tyrol.

Pitztal Glacier Trophy

Season-opening event on the glacier

This brand new ski touring event on 16 and 17 December 2017 will bring together some of the best ski tourers in the region for a series of races, including the "Olympic Distance" for professionals and various competitions including an uphill-only "Vertical" race for amateurs. The Pitztal Glacier Trophy will also feature plenty of side events. Ski touring skis and other equipment will be available to hire.
